Abstract

Background: Induction of Labor (IOL) is a common obstetric intervention initiated when the risks of continuing pregnancy outweigh the benefits. This study aimed to determine the incidence, indications, outcomes, and factors associated with the success or failure of IOL at Al-Sabeen Hospital in Sana'a City, Yemen.

​Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted involving 505 induced labor cases out of a total of 10,219 evaluated deliveries between June 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression.

​Results:

​Incidence: The overall incidence of IOL was 4.94%.

​Success Rate: Successful vaginal delivery was achieved in 87.9% of cases (including 3.8% instrumental deliveries), whereas failed induction leading to Cesarean Section occurred in 12.1%.

​Primary Indications: Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) was the most common indication (65.1\%), followed by preeclampsia (13.9\%).

​Induction Agent: Misoprostol was the primary agent used (78.4\%).

​Associated Factors: Multivariate analysis revealed that multiparity (\text{AOR} = 0.24), Misoprostol use (\text{AOR} = 0.34), and PROM indication (\text{AOR} = 0.34) were significantly associated with a reduced risk of induction failure.

​Conclusion: Labor induction at Al-Sabeen Hospital exhibits a high success rate with low maternal and neonatal morbidity. Multiparity and the administration of Misoprostol serve as strong clinical predictors for successful vaginal delivery following induction.
