Abstract

Abstract 
Background: Brucellosis is one of the major zoonosis globally with great veterinary and public health importance, particularly in developing countries where people are having frequent contact with livestock and animal products. 
Objectives: To assessment the seroprevalence of brucellosis among butchers and non- butchers in Sana'a city, Yemen, to identify the risk factors associated with brucellosis, to compare the seroprevalence of brucellosis among butchers and non butchers, and to assess people knowledge and practice about brucellosis. 
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Sana’a city from June 2021 to November 2021toassessment of seroprevalence of brucellosis among one hundred participants of butchers and one hundred participants of non-butchers from all 10 districts of Sana’a city, Yemen, whole blood samples were collected from each participant and separating by centrifugation, then sera were examined by using antibody agglutination test. 
     Also, the questionnaire was filled for each participant which include the age, knowledge about brucellosis, practice for brucellosis and risk factors as times of skin injuries and consumption of raw milk. 
Results: The prevalence of Brucella antibodies results among participants out of 200 samples there were 52(26%) samples positive, the seroprevalence among butchers(33%) was higher than non butchers(19%). The difference was statistically significant with p. value = 0.024. 
Conclusion: It can be concluded from this study, that the evidence of human brucellosis in Sana'a city, Yemen, seroprevalence of brucellosis was more common in butchers people.
