Background: Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five years of age, particularly in low-income countries.
Aim: This study aimed to assess the risk factors associated with acute respiratory infection among under-five children attending public hospitals in Sana'a City, Yemen.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were collected through a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire from 412 children under five years of age attending three public hospitals in Sana'a City. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 24.
Results: The study revealed a high prevalence of acute respiratory infection among the participants. Significant associations were found between ARI and several risk factors, including nutritional status, family history of disease, exposure to wood smoke, cigarette smoke exposure, use of biomass cooking fuel, and household crowding.
Conclusion: The study recommends strengthening family health education, improving child nutrition, reducing exposure to tobacco and biomass fuel smoke, and implementing effective preventive interventions to reduce the burden of acute respiratory infections among children under five years of age
