Computerized Health Information Systems and Their Impact on Supporting Medical Administrative Decisions "A Case Study of the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority in the Capital Municipality"

The research aimed to identify the impact of computerized health information systems in supporting medical administrative decisions at the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority. It also aimed to analyze the actual reality of the extent to which computerized health information systems are used across various departments and the impact of using these systems in supporting administrative and medical decisions, as well as to uncover the most prominent obstacles and problems that limit their effectiveness. The descriptive-analytical approach was utilized, and a questionnaire consisting of (49) items was designed to cover the research variables. The research population consisted of (1,800) male and female employees among decision-makers, and a stratified sampling method was used, resulting in a sample of (130) individuals, representing 14% of the target population. Data were processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), through which arithmetic means, standard deviations, one-way ANOVA, T-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were calculated.
The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: the number of administrative and medical respondents who use computerized health information systems in their work reached (115) out of (130) individuals, at a rate of 88.5%, which indicates a high utilization rate of computerized health information systems at the Republican Hospital Authority. The research showed that the computerized health information system currently used at the Republican Teaching Hospital Authority has a positive impact on medical and administrative decisions. Furthermore, the study revealed that there are obstacles limiting the effectiveness of health information systems, most notably: weak financial allocations, a lack of adequate training, and a lack of vision regarding the necessity of comprehensive planning for e-health applications
