Background & Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the psychological support provided to individuals with motor disabilities visiting the Prosthetics Center in the capital municipality, Sana'a. It sought to estimate the prevalence of psychological stress and psychiatric disorders among these cases, identify the common psychological consequences of physical disability within our culture, determine the contributing and sustaining factors of distress, and assess the type and impact of psychosocial support in alleviating their condition.
-
Methodology: The researchers utilized a descriptive survey design. A purposive sample consisting of 109 individuals with limb disabilities visiting the Prosthetics Center in Sana'a was selected during June 2022. The sample represented various regions across the Republic of Yemen, consisting of both males and females aged between 15 and 70 years.
-
Results: The findings revealed that 76% of the participants suffer from psychological anxiety and difficulty adapting to their current physical condition. Over 55% of the cases suffer from poor financial status and an absolute absence of financial aid from any responsible authority, largely due to the ongoing war and crisis in the country. Additionally, 60% suffer from clear psychological distresses such as anxiety and depression. Crucially, 80% demonstrated an explicit need for psychological support and displayed strong awareness regarding its importance in improving their overall quality of life.
