Abstract

This study represents an essential step toward the execution and construction of a medical city. It specifically addresses the engineering and architectural design aspects of building the "September 21 Medical and Educational City" in accordance with international standards, with a clinical capacity of 2,666 beds.
​The study encompasses all aspects related to the medical city and the foundational elements that render it a comprehensive environment capable of achieving satisfaction among citizens, staff, and visitors alike. This research was conducted to answer the central question: What are the optimal design standards for the September 21 Medical and Educational City in accordance with quality standards?
​The study aimed to determine the spatial requirements and global architectural design standards followed in designing medical cities. The significance of this study lies in establishing a foundational reference for engineering and design standards, which contributes to providing high-quality healthcare services at a lower cost.
​The study relies on several reliable references in the construction of cities and medical facilities, including the standards of the Yemeni Ministry of Health for evaluating hospitals, and the Architectural Design Standards Book of the Arab Republic of Egypt, among others.
​To achieve its goals, this study adopted a descriptive research methodology focused on describing the globally approved standards and spatial requirements for constructing medical cities. Furthermore, these standards have been established to guide the current state of healthcare using a model aligned with the 1606 vision in the health sector.
