Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Regarding Climate change and Its health Impact among Healthcare professional in Sana’a city hospitals – 2025.

Abstract

Abstract:  This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare professionals in Sana'a, Yemen, regarding climate change and its health impacts to inform public health strategies.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to March 2025 across eight public and private hospitals in Sana'a. A self-administered structured questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 354 healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses.

Results: The study included 353 respondents, predominantly nurses (58.6%) and males (52.4%). Most participants (69.1%) were between 25 and 40 years old. Knowledge assessment showed that 50.7% had good knowledge of climate change, while 49.3% demonstrated poor understanding. Social media was the primary information source (79.5%). Although 70.3% expressed concern about climate change impacts, only 20.2% reported participating in awareness campaigns. Multivariable analysis revealed that professionals with less than five years of experience had significantly superior knowledge, and those in public hospitals had better awareness compared to their private counterparts. Furthermore, 65.8% believed climate change increases the burden on healthcare systems, yet only 28.6% were familiar with heat action plans.

Conclusions: While healthcare professionals in Sana'a demonstrate considerable awareness of climate change, a clear gap remains between knowledge and active practices. Enhanced educational interventions and engagement strategies are essential to bridge this gap and support proactive responses to climate-related health challenges.
